A few days after celebrating the men and women of today and years past who have fought to keep America’s independence, the nation was shocked by the murders of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling at the hands of the police, and later, 5 police officers were also murdered at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, Texas (Brent Thompson, Patrick Zamarripa, Michael Krol, Lorne Ahrens, and Michael Smith). These acts of violence have caused a downpour of support to both the Black community and to police officers nationwide.
In times like these, we can only hope that love, acceptance, and working with one another can escape these dark times. Violence only breeds violence. Any more attacks on our fellow citizens, be it directed towards police officers, members of the Black, the LBGTQ and other communities beyond, will only exacerbate the situation, not heal it. With a heavy heart, LGU releases a short playlist with singles like Malcolm Anthony’s “I Know,” Caelz’ “Problematic,” and Termanology’s “We’re Both Wrong,” that tackle a few of these issues head on in their music.
Take a listen.
