May 12, Chicago artist Chance The Rapper released his third official mixtape, Coloring Book, to critical acclaim nationwide. Among the project’s standouts, a la “Blessings” and “Same Drugs,” was the aromatic, sonically warm, “Summer Friends,” produced by and featuring New York City band Francis and the Lights with a track rounding spot from R&B star, Jeremih.
Francis and the Lights, who have toured with Ke$ha, MGMT, and La Roux while receiving credit for working on albums for Drake and Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, have taken “Summer Friends” back into their pocket, creating a reprise of the track aptly called, “Friends,” with a video to boot featuring Bon Iver and Kanye West. With a similar bassline and changes to Chance’s version of the instrumental, this new work has lead singer Francis Starlite’s imaginative, whimsical vocals taking over Jake Schreier’s directorial shots of Bon Iver and Kanye West dancing and vibing out to the jam worthy work with him, all settled in front of a dimly lit white background.
Take a look.
