In the wake of nationwide racial tension and police brutality, and the movements, a la Black Lives Matter, that have grown to prevent it, Hip-Hop has made it’s own stance on the matter with vision, attention, and care. Although there have been a plethora of artists who have drawn inspiration from these events, Miami born, Kingston raised MC Nomad Carlos decides to utilize his platform to cut racism at its roots with his latest single.
For “Black & White,” Nomad Carlos takes both words and extracts the pigment and meaning from each letter, and in doing so, paints a colorful picture of race using historical perspective, personal tales of his own multicultural family, and a keenly aware social commentary to praise diversity and uplift the streets over producer Sosa’s wavy, head nodding instrumentals.
Although this track is considered a loosie, Nomad Carlos and Sosa are prepping in the studio for their forthcoming album, set to be released under the Arkhouse Music label later this year.
Take a listen.
